Perceptions of Architectural Innovations in Traditional Russian Culture

The article analyzes perceptions of architectural innovations as evaluated by Russian belief system, which is rooted deeply in Middle Ages and Paganism. The aforementioned architectural innovations are examined in a broader cultural context and that allows to draw parallels between the former and rituals thus either to rejecting the new and unknown and or to master it. The article traces as new tendencies emerge and replace the old ones; it also studies the aspiration to achieve the ideal of eternal youth. In conclusion, the author describes the late-medieval Moscow as infinitely growing and rejuvenating New Tsargrad. However, many contemporaries also thought that the eschatological prophecies had come to life and the “devilish motliness” had come to replace the sacred tradition.
