Chapel of the Saviour at the Former Trinity Muezersky Monastery

The late 17th century wooden chapel of the Saviour has survived till our days in the Trinity Muezersky monastery in northern Karelia. The paper presents the results of the field research as well as historical and archival analysis. The chapel’s construction history is brought to light, the stages and changes that took place with time are revealed, and the analogues are given. The chapel’s unique architectural features are described. The authors discuss the methodical approaches to the best possible restoration project for the chapel, which has a complex construction history. The restoration project ideas are evaluated from the point of the maximum preserving of the original parts and details, minimising the later layers removal, and at the same time the importance of revealing the aesthetics of traditional wooden construction is taken into account.
