Aleksandrovskaya Manufactory — the Example of the Architecture of Classicism

The architectural features of the little-known classical ensemble of St. Petersburg are considered. The Alexandrovskaya state manufactory, founded at the turn of the 18th century on the territory of the former estate of the prince A. A. Vyazemsky, played an important role in the emergence of the domestic industry. This institution has become the model of the new machine method of production and the example of new trends in the field of construction. The outstanding Petersburg architects of the classical period — A. D. Zakharov, A. I. Porto, A. N. Rokov and G. M. Pilnikov, as well as talented engineers and organizers of production — C. Gascoigne, A. Y. Wilson, L. Y. Wilson participated in its formation. Well-preserved buildings of the beginning of the 19th century are unique examples of neoclassical industrial architecture and monuments of national industrial history.
