New materials regarding research in the fields of architecture and urban construction are being presented. The authors also focus on the history of the creation of little-known buildings of interest, on the development of local architectural traditions, on new attributions, and introduce recently discovered archive materials. A number of papers are dedicated to the issues of architectural and urban planning development of historical towns and cities or study the formation of architectural ensembles. The edition also includes papers that are devoted to theoretical historical-architectural problems, to biographies of architects, or analyze artistic approaches and concepts.

Architecture of the Southern Urals Mosques of the Late 18th – 19th Centuries and the Role of Regional Traditions in Contemporary Architectural Practice

The paper addresses a broad range of issues, connected with planning, composition and stylistic features of the architecture of various mosques, erected in Southern Urals in the late 18th – 19th century. The author looks at a previously unnoticed sphere of the cultural heritage of the region. For the first time materials, describing and analyzing little-known Moslem religious architecture are being presented, based on the author’s field research. This work also includes extensive analysis of central and local archive documents and a lot of graphic works. As a result, the paper focuses on typical features of evolution and characteristic traits of the architecture of the mosques of the region.
