Architectural Studios of the Academy of Arts at the Time of the Revolution and the Civil War

The author, for the first time, closely looks at that short period, which was full, however, of interesting events, in the history of the Academy of Arts’ Architectural School – the time of the Revolution and of the Civil War (1917-1921). He describes the various propositions concerning the reform of the system of training architects, analyzes the new School structure, offers information about the professors, the students and about the subject of their work and their assignments. Certain examples of the sketches made by the students and model studies, offered by L.N. Benois, are also presented. The author points out that some of the methods applied in education may be considered as important today, being viewed in the light of the contemporary system of artistic training.
