The authors also focus on the history of the creation of little-known buildings of interest, on the development of local architectural traditions, on new attributions, and introduce recently discovered archive materials. A number of papers are dedicated to the issues of architectural and urban planning development of historical towns and cities or study the formation of architectural ensembles. The edition also includes papers that are devoted to theoretical historical-architectural problems, to biographies of architects, or analyze artistic approaches and concepts.

Storerooms and the “Round Laboratory” of the Mint Court in the Petropavlovskaya Fortress

Inside the Petropavlovskaya Fortress one can see a substantial number of secular buildings, dating to the 18th and 19th centuries. It is surprising that even though the architectural ensemble of the fortress as a whole is thoroughly studied, some of them unexpectedly appear to have escaped the attention of specialists and are not properly attributed up to the present. This is particularly true regarding several constructions, which were, almost since the time of their appearance, enclosed (or even completely isolated) within the borders of the St. Petersburg Mint Court.

The paper describes the result of historical and architectural research of two constructions. The authors propose an attribution of the edifice containing the Mint storage rooms and establish the date of appearance of the so-called “krepkovodochnaya” or the “Round Laboratory” building, designed by architect Antonio Porto.
