New materials regarding research in the fields of architecture and urban construction are being presented. The authors also focus on the history of the creation of little-known buildings of interest, on the development of local architectural traditions, on new attributions, and introduce recently discovered archive materials. A number of papers are dedicated to the issues of architectural and urban planning development of historical towns and cities or study the formation of architectural ensembles. The edition also includes papers that are devoted to theoretical historical-architectural problems, to biographies of architects, or analyze artistic approaches and concepts.

Soviet Architecture of the 1940s. Town Polunochnoye of the Ivdel’ District of the Sverdlovsk Region
The paper looks at certain traits of Soviet architecture, common for small towns in the 1940s. As an example, the town Polunochnoye of the Ivdel’ District of the Sverdlovsk Region may be studied as an object, which fully reflects the Soviet urban construction doctrine of the period. The typical concepts, regarding the planning and the facades of buildings, are illustrated by turning to the example of the Palace of Culture named after A. A. Zhdanov. The author focuses on the events and factors, connected with the raising and destruction of this edifice. Certain characteristics, defining the value of the 1940s architecture, are also being noted, as well as recommendations given for preserving extant objects of the related period, situated far from the economical centers of the Russian Federation.
