Certain Features of the Facades and Interiors of St. Petersburg Northern Art Nouveau Mansions (Mid-1900s)

In the mid-1900s, the interest of Russian artists and architects towards Scandinavian Art, where in those years national Romanticism became widespread, produced in St. Petersburg an individual variation of a regional style, known as Northern Art Nouveau. Even though many specialists constantly studied it, not all of its features have received equal attention. For example, interiors were not described in details up to now. Because of this the research, regarding the stylistic correspondences between the facades and interiors of the St. Petersburg buildings of this period, appears to be timely and having interesting prospects. The paper describes the interiors of several Art Nouveau buildings: E. G. Follenweider’s mansion, residence of R. F. Meltzer and M. V. Ziv’s Mansion.
