Some Aspects of Construction Works in Tver in the 1620s–1630s

The Time of Troubles of the early 17th century had a major negative impact on Russian architecture, including stone construction. Tver experienced this phenomenon like many other cities. However, as early as the 1610s, on the lands of the former Tver Principality, appeared a trend to revive the local «construction plan», in which Moscow architects actively participated. Nevertheless, even in Tver in the 1610s–1620s, these undertakings were largely connected only with repairing and reconstruction. This may be seen in the cases involving the rebuilding of the White Trinity Church and the Transfiguration Cathedral. A certain turning point became evident in the middle — second half of the 1630s, when the Transfiguration Cathedral was fundamentally renovated and the main church of the Zhioltikov Monastery completely rebuilt.
