Paul Jacot. Evolution of Forms in the Works of a Master of a Transitional Period

The paper is dedicated to the specific features of the artistic method of Paul Jacot, a St. Petersburg architect of the early stage of Historicism. It contains a short description of the master’s esthetic evolution. Principal attention is given to the formal-compositional analysis of Jacot’s major works that have played an important role in terms of urban planning and formation of public space, such as: the complex of the House of the Dutch Church in Nevsky Avenue and the building of the Assembly of the Nobility in Mikhailovsky Square (first of all, the interior of its Column Hall). The author focuses on the important role that P. Jacot played in the evolution of architecture at a complex stage of transition, involving forms, which were typical for the Russian Empire Style, and the emergence of new compositional schemes of Eclecticism (Historicism).
