The Capella Franca in New Jerusalem? Architectural and Archeological Objects near the Sothern Façade of the Resurrection Cathedral (preliminary research)

Specialists are conducting excavations in the Novoierusalimski (New-Jerusalem) Monastery, located on the Istra River, since 2009. Its Resurrection Cathedral (1650s-1690s) is a replica of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem (erected in the 12th century by the crusaders). To the south of the Golgotha Church we find remains of a certain construction and two burial places. The context analysis of the architecture of both edifices demonstrated that patriarch Nikon repeated the archetypical element of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre — the external stairs to the Golgotha (known since the 17th century as capella franca).
